Move over Heidi Klum as Demi Moore may have just taken the crown for the best celebrity Halloween look after sharing shockingly graphic behind-the-scenes images from her latest movie.

Celebrities, just like the rest of us, enjoy getting into the festive spirit and dressing up for Halloween. However, unlike us, they have a much bigger budget when it comes to creating costumes – which means the end results are often involve hours of prosthetics (Ms Klum) or professionally choreographed photoshoots (the Kardashian-Jenner family).

However it looks like Moore has ‘won’ Halloween 2024 with her look, which you can take a look at below. The actress used the spooky holiday as an opportunity to promote her latest film The Substance, a gory body horror where Moore plays fading Hollywood star, Elisabeth Sparkle, who takes a ‘substance’ to create a more youthful version of herself (played by Margaret Qualley).

The film has been a massive hit with fans, going on to gross a worldwide total of $42.4 million (£32.8 million).

Now I know that recycling old set photos doesn’t exactly count as a Halloween costume, but we’re willing to forgive the Ghost star this time as the disturbing transformation is too good to not share.

In the carousel of images we see Moore, sporting a bald cap and some pretty extreme old age prosthetics as well as a photo of her face made over to look swollen and covered in fake blood.

“Spoiler alert,” she captioned the photos on Instagram. “Been holding onto these gems from @trythesubstance and today feels like an appropriate day to share them. Happy Halloween from Elisabeth Sparkle.”

Moore also noted that The Substance is now available to stream on MUBI, while various cinemas across the country are currently doing a limited re-run for spooky season.

Moore’s followers were equally obsessed and creeped out by the images, with one person commenting: “Pretty iconic if you ask me,” while Los Angeles-based hair stylist Sergio Garcia joked: “Lol need me to color [sic] those three little gray my dear?”

Quoting the film, someone else wrote: “Has…there been a…slight misuse of the substance?”

While Moore had clearly decided that recycling her Elisabeth Sparkle looks was enough for this years Halloween, she made sure to praise The Kardashians star Kylie Jenner for her channelling one of her most infamous (and much less gory) roles.

For her not-so-spooky look, Jenner, 27, re-created the promotional poster for Moore’s 1996 movie Striptease, a look which the 61-year-old actress loved.

Resharing a comparison of the original poster and Jenner’s recreation, Moore told the reality star that she had ‘nailed’ the look, before sharing a series of side-by-side images from a fan account.

The hidden detail in the Halloween poster makes the movie all the more creepy

One of the original actors who played the iconic Michael Myers villain in the very first Halloween film has revealed a hidden detail in the movie’s legendary poster.

Back in 1978, Halloween was released in the week before the autumn holiday itself, with the world introduced to the terrifying world of Michael Myers, a mental hospital patient who escapes 15 years after murdering his teenage sister on one Halloween night.

Myers, known for his terrifying mask, sets his sights on teenage babysitter Laurie Strode, played by Jamie Lee Curtis in her first ever movie role; a role that would go on to define her career through the multiple sequels to the slasher film.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time, it brought slashers in to the mainstream and the iconic role of the ‘final girl’, the one survivor from a villain’s murderous rampage that lives to tell the story (and pave the way for profitable sequels and franchises).

Michael Myers was played by three actors in the film, primarily Nick Castle but also Tony Moran and Will Sandin, with the latter two playing an unmasked and child version of the killer, respectively.

And it is Moran who has recently brought attention to the film’s iconic poster and its hidden imagery.

“Do you see this hand? It’s something other than a hand,” Moran tells those getting their memorabilia signed at a recent film convention.

“Well, I’m not going to tell you, you’re going to have a look at it yourself, bro.”

After taking a closer look, Moran says: “If you see it, don’t say a word. Do not say a word.

“It’s something other than a hand, I promise you. When I show you you’re going to go ‘whaaaaat?’.”

With the crowd still unable to figure it out, Moran reveals all.

“It’s the profile of a face,” he tells them.

“There’s the eye, there’s the nose and there’s the mouth.”

After revealing it, the onlookers were left going making a universal ‘ahhhh…’ after finally clocking it.

“You’ll never not see that now, you’ll never see a hand ever again,” Moran said.

The moment was captured by TikTok user Julian Mongeon, who captioned the video with: “I can’t unsee it now.”

Reacting to the revelation, one TikTok user wrote: “I don’t see it not going to lie.”

A second said: “It’s a face, I don’t know how people never knew.”

And a third posted: “I see it now. It looks like a face screaming that is covered in a plastic bag; like something out of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Others said it was more a case of pareidolia, which is where our brains impose a likeness on to an image to try and form a greater connection or understanding.

This may well be the case given that Robert Gleason, the artist behind the iconic poster, admitted that he didn’t draw the face intentionally, with it something he later spotted himself in the piece. Which, if you ask us, just adds to the creepy lore surrounding the iconic film.

Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick shot entirely improvised film with nude scene available on Netflix

The film is entirely improvised

Shooting a film can be a massively arduous and difficult process, even if you have a script telling you exactly what to say and when.

So that makes it all the more impressive any time it comes out that certain scenes and moments that stick with you are improvised by the actors in the moment.

Even more impressive than that? How about when an entire film is improvised, like this 2013 one starring Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick on Netflix is.

Whilst the actors were given major beats they had to hit and events that had to happen, everything in between was entirely improvised by the actors in the moment.

This includes a nude scene from Wilde, which she has stressed was improvised by her in a past interview.

The film joins those such as This is Spinal Tap, and the James McAvoy thriller My Son in films entirely improvised by the actors.

Check out the trailer and think, would you be able to know it was all improvised?

The film in question is called Drinking Buddies, and it involves a pair of couples played by Wilde, Jake Johnson, Kendrick, and Ron Livingston.

It focuses on Wilde and Johnson’s characters as work drinking buddies who are each other’s work husband and wife to lend a horrible term.

Things get awkward, however, when they meet outside of work with each of their partners – and go away on a trip as a four.

Each of the actors picked the names of their characters, and played a large role in shaping each of them.

One scene in particular sees Wilde’s character, Kate, run into the ocean naked and skinny dip in front of Johnson’s character, Luke.

In an interview with Uproxx, Wilde hit back at criticism of the director Joe Swanberg for this.

Many of his films have nudity from actors of all genders, and she said skinny dipping was ‘her idea’ as ‘it felt so incredibly organic to that moment’.

She said: “I didn’t feel conflicted. That is the magic moment [Kate’s] been waiting for, where she is offering herself, quite literally, to [Luke]. She’s being so inappropriate, and she knows it.

“And if Joe had said it’s too inappropriate, like ‘If you’re nude it’d be too jarring,’ I would have fought for it.”

The film was well received upon release, with an 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Francesca Steele of The Independent said: “Drinking Buddies could suffer a little from its marketing, which may suggest to some audiences that it is just a regular rom com.

“But luckily, it is nothing like that. It is something much, much better.”

Meanwhile, Robbie Collin of the Daily Telegraph said: “This is thoughtful film-making with a keen sense of humour, and we can all drink to that.”
