A Mother’s Love: An Unforgettable Wedding Lesson
Arnold stood at the altar, radiating happiness as he exchanged vows with his stunning bride, Masha. The opulent wedding was a realization of his dreams—an exquisite venue, extravagant decorations, and a guest list filled with the most affluent families. However, a sense of unease crept into his mind upon seeing his mother, Diana, enter the church. He had clearly instructed her not to attend.
Two days prior, Diana had returned home with a bright smile, holding a carefully selected blue suit for her son. She had spent her hard-earned money to purchase it, eager to surprise him.
“Look what I have for you, Arnold!” she exclaimed with enthusiasm. “You will look magnificent in this at your wedding!”
Yet, Arnold’s expression turned stern as he regarded the suit. “I cannot wear that inexpensive outfit, Mom. I am marrying into a wealthy family. I cannot afford to appear unrefined.” Diana’s heart plummeted, but the subsequent words shattered her completely. “And frankly, I don’t want you at the wedding. Masha’s family will be present, and I don’t want them questioning why my mother is a café cleaner.”
Arnold’s harshness left Diana devastated. She retreated to her room, tears streaming down her cheeks. For years, she had labored tirelessly to provide him with a good life. How had her son become so unfeeling?
As Sunday drew near, Diana resolved to attend. “He does not comprehend my suffering or my love,” she murmured, gazing at her reflection. “But I will be there to witness his joy, even if he does not wish for my presence.”
Clad in her finest attire, Diana arrived at the church, carrying an old ceramic vase—her gift to Arnold. She observed the ceremony in silence, tears shimmering in her eyes as Arnold and Masha exchanged rings. For a fleeting moment, her anguish was overshadowed by a sense of pride.
At the reception, Diana approached Arnold, who visibly tensed upon seeing her. “Congratulations, my dear,” she said, presenting him with a gift. “This is for you.”
Arnold glanced at the vase and frowned in disapproval. “She couldn’t even take the time to choose something worthwhile,” he thought, feeling irritated as he hastily unwrapped it, making a mental note to dispose of it later.
Before he could make his exit, Diana took hold of the microphone. Arnold froze, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over him. “What is she planning to do?” he muttered quietly.
Diana’s voice quivered as she began her speech. “Twenty-five years ago, just before my best friend passed away, she entrusted me with this vase. She asked me to give it to her son on his wedding day. That son is here with us today.”
The audience murmured in astonishment. Arnold’s expression darkened. “What is she saying?” he whispered to Masha.
Diana continued, her voice laden with emotion. “After her passing, I adopted her son and raised him as my own. I never revealed the truth because I wanted him to feel loved and secure. Today, I am honoring my promise to her.”
Arnold’s hands shook as he opened the vase. Inside, he discovered bundles of cash accompanied by a handwritten note from his biological mother: For my son’s bright future. I hope this assists you in pursuing your dreams.
Overwhelmed, Arnold’s knees buckled, and tears streamed down his face. The revelation struck him like a tidal wave. Diana was not merely his adoptive mother; she was the woman who had given up everything for him. He grasped the vase tightly, filled with remorse.
Diana concluded her speech, her voice unwavering despite the tears glistening in her eyes. “I have fulfilled my duty. You now have a new family. I wish you all the happiness life can offer.”
As she turned to depart, Arnold hurried after her. “Mom, please wait!” he implored, dropping to his knees before her. “I’m so sorry. I’ve been oblivious to your love. Please forgive me. I don’t deserve your kindness, but I cannot bear to lose you. You are my mother, the only one I have ever known. Don’t leave me. I don’t want to feel orphaned again.”
