This Girl Lost Her Star Dad at Only Two — He Didn’t Include Her in His Will, So His Co-stars Gave Up Money for Her

A young girl tragically lost her father, a celebrated actor, at the tender age of two. He did not include her in his will, prompting his co-stars to forgo their earnings to support her.

This distinguished actor was renowned for his portrayal of The Joker in “The Dark Knight,” as well as his performances in “Lords of Dogtown” and “I’m Not There.”

In 2004, while working on “Brokeback Mountain,” he met Michelle Williams, and a year later, they welcomed their daughter, Matilda Rose. Despite their separation in 2007, his affection for Matilda remained steadfast.

Director Terry Gilliam reminisced about how the actor would carry his daughter in a backpack while engaging in discussions about films.

In 2008, the actor tragically passed away in his New York apartment, leaving two-year-old Matilda to grapple with her mother’s heartbreaking explanations regarding his absence. Following his death, during the production of “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” Gilliam brought in Jude Law, Johnny Depp, and Colin Farrell to fill the void. These actors, who were close friends of the late star, generously donated their salaries to Matilda, as the actor had not revised his will to include her.

Heath Ledger had designated his estate to his parents and sisters. However, his father, Kim Ledger, declared that the family would allocate everything to Matilda. This decision led to a conflict between Kim and his brothers, who doubted his capability to manage the estate.

Now 17, Matilda bears a remarkable resemblance to her late father. Her grandfather Kim and aunt Kate Ledger recognize many of his characteristics in her. Michelle Williams has commendably raised Matilda, ensuring that Ledger’s legacy endures in her life.

Despite her parents’ prominence, Matilda leads a relatively private life, making public appearances primarily alongside her mother.
